چکیده

It is known from ensemble measurements that rubidium atoms trapped in solid parahydrogen have favorable properties for quantum sensing of magnetic fields. To use a single atom as sensor requires technique capable efficiently measuring the internal state atom, such laser-induced fluorescence. In this work we search fluorescence ensembles and, separately, neon. find no evidence over range explored, and place upper limits on radiative branching ratio. neon, observe laser induced fluorescence, measure spectrum emitted light, excited lifetime matrix. Bleaching excitation light also reported.

The infrared spectrum of HOOH+ trapped in solid neon.

When a Ne:H(2)O(2) mixture is codeposited at 4.3 K with a beam of neon atoms that have been excited in a microwave discharge, three new, photosensitive absorptions appear which can be assigned to the three infrared-active vibrational fundamentals of trans-HOOH(+). When the Ne:H(2)O(2) deposition system is pretreated with the vapors of D(2)O, the product absorptions include new peaks which can b...

Optical pumping of rubidium atoms frozen in solid argon

We have grown crystals of solid argon doped with rubidium atoms. The spectrum of the implanted atoms depends on the crystal-growth temperature and annealing history. We have used optical pumping to polarize the spin state of the implanted atoms and polarization spectroscopy to detect the spin state and measure the spin-relaxation time. In addition to the desired optical pumping, we also observe...

Collisional properties of trapped cold chromium atoms

We report on calculations of the elastic cross section and thermalization rate for collision between two maximally spin-polarized chromium atoms in the cold and ultracold regimes, relevant to buffergas and magneto-optical cooling of chromium atoms. We calculate ab initio potential energy curves for Cr2 and the van der Waals coefficient C6, and construct interaction potentials between two collid...

Coherence properties of nanofiber-trapped cesium atoms.

We experimentally study the ground state coherence properties of cesium atoms in a nanofiber-based two-color dipole trap, localized ∼ 200 nm away from the fiber surface. Using microwave radiation to coherently drive the clock transition, we record Ramsey fringes as well as spin echo signals and infer a reversible dephasing time of T(2)(*) = 0.6 ms and an irreversible dephasing time of T(2)(') =...

Ground-state properties of magnetically trapped Bose-condensed rubidium gas.

We give a quantitative account of the ground-state properties of the dilute magnetically trapped 87Rb gas recently cooled and Bose-Einstein condensed at nanokelvin-scale temperatures. Using simple scaling arguments, we show that at large particle number the kinetic energy is a small perturbation, and find a spatial structure of the cloud of atoms and its momentum distribution dependent in an es...
